WHY VISIT

If we could sum up the bustling Little India heritage area in one phrase, it would be "a feast for the senses"!

Stroll through its streets, and you might think you've been transported to a city in India. Shops overflow with their wares – vibrant flower garlands, beautiful sarees, colourful bangles and intricate henna designs - this is one place where your camera will be put to good use!

As you explore the area, you might pick up the scent of fragrant incense or aromatic spices, and hear the catchy beats of the latest Bollywood songs. And as you wander past the shops and eateries, you'll probably find it hard to resist the temptation of trying some tasty Indian snacks and sweets!

WHAT YOU'LL SEE

About the Gems of Little India Tour
There's so much to see and experience in Little India Singapore. To ensure you see all the highlights, join our walking tour and sightsee with us!

Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple

Little India's main Hindu temple, dedicated to the Goddess Kali, is hugely popular and bustling with Hindu worshipers and visitors alike.

Come listen to the colourful stories behind the temple's deities, and learn about fascinating Hindu worship practices.

Campbell Lane & Little India Arcade

This charming cluster of shops is where you'll find all manner of specialty products for the Indian community - garlands, bangles, bindis, incense, henna, snacks, sweets and more.

Let our guide take you through some highlights and you’ll gain insights into Indian customs and traditions.

Tekka Centre

Tekka Centre is a local institution and a real slice of Singapore life.

There's a riot of colour from hundreds of Indian sarees and suits on display at the shops. There's a bustling wet market, Singapore's largest, with an amazing variety of fresh produce on offer. One of Singapore's best food centres is also here and you'll find Singaporeans indulging in the national pastime of eating!

During our walk, we’ll explore some of the historic streets of Little India and hear about how the Indian community was not actually supposed to settle here, under Raffles’ town plan. What made them leave their originally designated area to come to Little India? Hint: The street names in the area give us some clues.

The tour is designed to end at lunch time so it’ll be perfect timing for you to enjoy the specialities of the area – our guide will showcase a whole street full of eateries and provide some suggestions.

GUEST REVIEWS

  • "Shal was absolutely wonderful. She portrays a genuine love and passion for her work and what she does. Her patience, enthusiasm and willingness to adapt the tour to the needs of our little motley group was both heartening and selfless. More importantly, we were impressed with the extent and bounty of Shal's historical knowledge and stories of Singapore with respect to our tour of Little India...We had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend Shal as a guide to anyone wanting to discover the authentic side of Singapore. "- KRISTINA, CANADA

  • "Shal is an excellent guide as it's clear that she has thoroughly researched the history of Indian settlers in Singapore and is able to weave in historical contexts in contemporary Singapore. We had 8 resident and returning Singaporeans in our private tour of 8 ranging from teens to an octogenarian and Shal was sensitive to the needs and interests of all. I've been to Little India on numerous occasions and we saw a side of Little India that is not presented in most guides/tours and this 'off the beaten track' walking tour was fascinating and educational. I would highly recommend this tour." – BEATRICE, SINGAPORE

  • “As someone who grew up in Singapore, I learned so much about the area and country in a few hours. Shal designed the tour to fit the needs of our diverse group. We requested to end the tour a little early and she made sure that we still had the full experience. She has clearly researched the shady spots to stop and share her knowledge so that we weren't standing in the hot sun.... Shal used old photos to enhance the tour, and told us personal stories about local business owners. She made sure we had breaks as needed - for the bathroom, and rest. At the end of the tour, she gave us specific recommendations for places to eat and shop. I highly recommend this tour if you are a local or visitor." – SHARON, USA/SINGAPORE

  • "Our family of three had the pleasure of taking the Gems of Chinatown and the Little India tours with Shal. We are completely convinced that we saw more of both areas than we would have done had we gone without a guide. Shal was great, explained everything and took us to places we may not have discovered by using the guidebook alone. The tour was set to our own pace. We would recommend this company without hesitation." - VICKY, UK
